Deeds

Christ seeks from us deeds not words. Devotion to him is in the first place not sentimental but practical. If the Christian faith has no power to restore or recreate the human will leading on to deeds of unselfish service, then it stands self-condemned.

Presence and touch

The most important gestures of love do not involve words.  They involve presence and touch.  Words can interpret, augment, amplify and clarify such gestures.  But they can almost never substitute for them.  If ministry gets presence and touch wrong, there is little that words can do.  If ministry gets presence and touch right, words can come naturally.

Writing letters

William Barclay once wrote:
Letters are dangerous things. A man will often write with a bitterness and presumption which he would never use to another's face.

The same applies to emails...perhaps more so, since we're prone to sending them off quickly, without checking the way they're written. So, don't abuse, but speak the truth in love.
